PERHAM, Maine — A 16-year-old Perham girl was injured when she crashed the vehicle she was driving into a home here Saturday morning, according to Aroostook County Sheriff Shawn Gillen.

The teen, who police are not naming because she is a minor, was traveling southbound on Nutting Road in a 2014 Kia Sorento SUV at around 8 a.m. when she attempted to stop at the intersection of Nutting Road and Carson Road.

“Due to icy road conditions, she left the roadway, slid across the Carson Road and struck the side of a residence,” Gillen said in a press release.

The homeowner was inside the home at the time of the crash and was uninjured.

Caribou Ambulance transported the driver of the vehicle, who was wearing her seatbelt, to Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle to be treated for unspecified injuries that police said are not life threatening.

A tow truck removed the disabled SUV from the scene.

Deputy Reid Clark investigated the accident with assistance from Deputy Corey Saucier. Members of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department assisted at the scene.
