PRESQUE ISLE, MaineNew Ventures Maine announced a Perham company has won its latest marketing mini-grant competition for small businesses in Aroostook County.

Great North Woods Herbs and Botanicals on Salmon Brook Road in Perham received an award of $500.

Jan Grieco, owner/operator, said her company’s mission is to provide quality herbal and natural products for both a local and national market by hand-crafting all products in small batches. The business uses only organic, wild crafted or locally produced ingredients, many from Aroostook County, where they work with farmers and other producers who support pure ingredients, sustainable growing and harvesting practices, and preservation of the environment.

The funds will help Grieco with website development to increase visibility of the business. Great North Woods is in discussion with two web developers who are interested in working to develop an interactive website. Additional monies will purchase brochures and signs for use at the local farmers’ market, craft fairs and shows to develop the business’ image.

Suzanne Senechal-Jandreau, regional manager/workforce development specialist, served on the grant review committees.

“Marketing mini grants offer area businesses an opportunity to access additional funds to help grow their business.  Each marketing project can make the difference by providing a small influx of capital to help reach new or re-connect with existing customers.”

New Ventures Maine’s Marketing Mini-grant criteria included having five or fewer employees, gross annual sales of $250,000 or less, and articulating a compelling marketing project to support business growth. Support for NVME’s mini-grants program was provided in part from The Betterment Fund.
