FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A gentle breeze greeted parade-goers in downtown Fort Fairfield at the 72nd annual Maine Potato Blossom Festival Parade held Saturday, June 20.

The parade drew hundreds of onlookers to Fort Fairfield’s Main Street as area law enforcement, businesses, farms and community organizations drove their vehicles, equipment and displays on the second to last day of the Maine Potato Blossom Festival.

The week-long Maine Potato Blossom Festival celebrates Aroostook County’s potato industry and summer in northern Maine. Events throughout the week included concerts, crafts, cook-offs, class reunions, group kayak and bike rides, fireworks, a beer garden, and one of the most popular summer parades in northern Maine.

While high temperatures neared 90 degrees in Central Aroostook County Saturday, parade-goers found respite under Fort Fairfield’s shade trees and westerly winds blowing off the nearby Aroostook River.
