Easton Elementary recognizes book award tourney winners

The Maine Student Book Award District Tournament was held Wednesday, Feb. 9, thanks to the donation of 24 books from the Presque Isle Rotary Club. 

Nine students from grades four through seven participated. Two teams competed by answering Kahoot questions over 12 of the MSBA titles. 

The runner-up team, “The Readers,” was composed of Brenna Carlow, Nikolai Lento, Carson MacPherson, Mason Pelletier and Isabella Copeland.

The district winners, “Team D,” included Caitlin MacPherson, Abigail Siddiqui, Jackson Dow and Wyatt Gundy.  

Congratulations to all.

Science center public event

Have you ever wanted to plan your own Alaskan adventure?  On Saturday, March 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., join Eric and Elaine Hendrickson on their Alaskan tour of remote places beyond the Arctic Circle, on the edge of glaciers, along the Klondike Trail and the waters of the Kenai Fjord.  

Through photos, narrative and helpful tips, you can begin planning your own amazing trip to “The Last Frontier.”  

Following this hour long program, join the group for a 60-minute moonlight snowshoe hike in the woods across from the center.  Snow shoes will be available. Please bring a flashlight or headlamp.  

The price is  $5 per person, per event ($10 for both).  Reservations are required by calling 488-5451 or e-mailing info@francismalcolmsciencecenter.com.

Town news

The Town of Easton will host its annual budget committee hearing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Odd Fellows Hall for discussion of the 2020/2021 town budget.  

Easton residents will have the opportunity to vote in the Maine presidential primary and referendum ballot from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at the Easton Town Office, 3 Station Rd.
