NEW SWEDEN, Maine – A fire Wednesday morning fully destroyed a New Sweden home before fire crews could arrive.
Caribou Fire & Ambulance arrived at 128 Stockholm Road around 4:18 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters used 25,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
Residents of the two-story home were out of town at the time, said Captain John Thornton with Caribou Fire and Ambulance.
Caribou Fire was assisted by firefighters from Limestone, Stockholm and North Lakes Fire & Rescue.
Fire apparatus cleared the scene around 7:09 a.m. but many crew members remained on site until investigators from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived later that morning, Thornton said.
Phone calls to the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office went unanswered Friday morning.
