Easton pastors attend conference

Pastor and Mrs. Matthew Maxwell and Pastor and Mrs. Vaughn Martin of the Easton Wesleyan Church have recently returned from a Wesleyan Pastor’s Conference in Florida.

“The Gathering” was the largest North American Wesleyan Pastor’s Conference to date, with over 2,000 pastors and their wives in attendance.

Both Easton pastors gained a great deal from the workshops. The families attended the “Holy Land Experience” while there, which is a sight and sound theme park, showcasing Jerusalem during the time of Christ. This experience gave historical and cultural background information for a “Jerusalem Experience” program the Easton church will be putting on for the community in April.
While there, Pastor Vaughn attended one workshop with Nathan Richardson, who is the grandson of Rena Richardson. Nathan is a youth pastor in a Wesleyan Church in New York. Pastor Vaughn taught Nathan in grade 4 many years ago at the Easton Elementary School. Neither would have guessed back then that they both would become pastors and end up at a conference together one day.
Organizations
Meaghan Frank, Jessica Bennett, Taylor Lawrence, Jolene Guerrette, Carla Halvorson, Sydney Trask, Denise Clark, Leah Alexander and Michelle Osgood, from Easton Jr./Sr. High School, all participated in the All Aroostook Music Festival at the Fort Fairfield Middle/High School on Saturday, Jan. 13. Our students represented Easton well and the concert was excellent.
The Easton United Methodist Women met for their regular meeting at the home of Marie Hewitt at West Ridge Manor.
Members will be hosting the meetings at their homes during the winter months to save on church fuel.
The meeting was opened with devotions led by Avis Hume. Prayers were said for those on the Prayer List. The word for the month was “Heaven.”
The secretary’s report was given by Marjorie Corey and the treasurer’s report by Marie Hewitt. For Community Service it was reported that 16 cookie platters were delivered and one gift for Christmas as well as a gift certificate from Mike’s Family Market for groceries for one household. The group made 20 visitations this past month and five cards were sent. Birthday cards were signed for two members who are unable to attend meetings now. Thank-you cards were read from Lillian Flewelling and Karl and Bonnie Fuller.
A letter from the mother of a serviceman, whom the group has been sending items to for the children in Iraq, was read to the group thanking them for their care and prayers. This young man is now home with his family in Texas for the time being. It was voted to make donations to Project Graduation, and the Ronald McDonald House. It was also voted to make a donation to the Heifer Project in honor of Carol Guiggey, the secretary for both Mars Hill and Easton churches; she has also been the choir director at the Easton Church. Refreshments of pumpkin and apple pie were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be held Feb. 21 at Freda Dionne’s with the word for the month being “Light.”
Sympathy
Our sympathy goes out to the family and friends of 56-year-old William “Bill” Hudson who lost his long battle with cancer at the Mars Hill Health Care Facility on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Bill graduated from Presque Isle High School in the class of 1969, then went on to graduate from the San Francisco School of Art. He worked at Burrell’s Clipping Service in Presque Isle until too ill to do so. Bill was known and liked by many people from all the close towns around; even during his worst times he had a smile for everyone. He leaves his loving wife, Sherry Jandreau, of Presque Isle; a son, Kyah Hudson, also of Presque Isle; two daughters, Beth Nudd and family of Stratham, New Hampshire; and Tauria Hudson of Presque Isle; and also a stepson, Justin Whittaker of Easton; and a stepdaughter, Autumn Whittaker of Presque Isle. He will be sadly missed by his brothers: Leroy Carney of Howland; James Hudson of Newport News, Virginia; and Wendell Hudson of Easton. He also leaves two grandchildren in New Hampshire. A memorial service was held last Friday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home with his brother, Wendell Hudson, officiating.  Anyone wishing to donate in his memory may do so to help his family in care of Sherry Jandreau, Box 90, Easton Road, Presque Isle, ME 04769 or to the American Cancer Society New England Divisiou, Inc., One Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
