In response to a request from the Sister Mary O’Donnell Shelter, the residential facility managed by Homeless Services of Aroostook, the Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle made a donation of $1,000 to enable the shelter to keep their doors open during the day through March. The shelter was in jeopardy of having to close during the daytime due to increased expenses for area families in need.
If the facility had needed to close during the day, custodial parents would have been forced outside until
the Sister Mary O’Donnell Shelter was able to reopen in the evening.
“It has been a difficult winter for many families” noted Susan Mitchell, executive director of the shelter, as she presented the Kiwanis check by Carolyn Dorsey, Community Services chair for the local service club.
