WOODLAND, Maine – Police are seeking a Presque Isle man in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a Woodland used car lot in January.

“Brian Saunders is wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on the Carson Road in Woodland on Jan. 12 of this year,” said Lt. Darrell Ouellette, of the Maine State Police.

According to Ouellette, following an extensive investigation that included DNA evidence linking Saunders to the crime scene, Maine State Police obtained a warrant for Saunder’s arrest.

Saunders faces charges including robbery and elevated aggravated assault, both Class A felonies.

“Saunders is a white male, 24 years of age, 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes,” said Ouellette.

During the robbery on Jan. 12, police believe that Brian Saunders and a companion entered a business wearing masks and carrying clubs.

“They inflicted serious head injuries to the owner of the business and an employee, and subsequently robbed them of over $11,000,” said Ouellette.

The victims were identified as Roland Fortin, 60, and mechanic Arnold Bubar, 57. Fortin was taken to Cary Medical Center for treatment and later transported by aircraft to Maine Medical Center in Portland for severe head injuries. Fortin remained hospitalized for three days for treatment of a cracked skull and a concussion. Bubar was treated at Cary for head injuries but was released later that same evening.

The Presque Isle Police Department has been assisting in the search for Saunders but have yet to find the man.

“We are attempting to locate Saunders but haven’t had much luck. He’s probably aware he’s wanted in connection with the robbery. That’s why the State Police are asking for the public’s help,” said Chief Naldo Gagnon, of the PIPD.

Police did not indicate if they had any suspects in mind with regard to the second person involved in the attack.
