PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Middle school teams around the area continued their ski season Friday amidst freshly falling powder at the Nordic Heritage Center.
The Madawaska boys pulled out a team win in the 2.5K classical race with 14 points and four racers in the top-10. Caribou took second with 29 points followed by Presque Isle blue with 65, Presque Isle white with 70, Fort Fairfield with 72 and Ashland with 105.
Madawaska’s Alex Jandreau and Jon Lee finished back-to-back at first and second. Jandreau came in at eight minutes and 56.6 seconds while Lee was right behind at 9:10.7.
Fort Fairfield’s Nathan McLaughlin took third with a time of 9:40.3 followed by Caribou’s Caleb Chapman at 9:40.9 and Madawaska’s Darin Jandreau at 10:00.1.
Rounding out the top-10 were Gregoire Facher of Madawaska in sixth at 10:22.5; Christian Sleeper of Caribou in seventh at 10:37.7; D.J. Flynn of Caribou in eighth at 10:49.3; Issac Lajoie of the Presque Isle blue team in ninth at 10:53.9; and Kevin Strid of Caribou in 10th at 10:54.

One hundred and seventy-two skiers converged on the Caribou High School ski trails as the middle school racing season kicked off last Tuesday.
Madawaska earned top team honors with 27 points followed by Fort Kent with 36, Caribou with 41 and Union 122 with 56. Following were Presque Isle blue with 102 points, Fort Fairfield with 113, Presque Isle white with 118 and Ashland with 138.
Individually, Alex Jandreau of Madawaska took the top spot with a time of 12 minutes and four seconds followed by Nathan McLaughlin of Fort Fairfield at 12:51.1 and Jonathan Lee of Madawaska at 12:54.7. Rounding out the top-five were Fort Kent’s Logan Doak at 12:59.2 and Caribou’s Caleb Chapman at 13:03.4.
Other top-10 finishers included Fort Kent’s Sam Boutot and Carson Spencer in sixth and seventh, respectively at 13:12 and 13:19.3; Caribou’s Christian Sleeper at 13:22.1; Union 122’s Royce Landeen at 13:25.2; and Madawaska’s Darin Jandreau at 13:37.5.
