The Aroostook County middle schools had two freestyle cross country ski meets recently. On March 14, the teams met at the Nordic Heritage Center, despite rainy weather, and on March 16 they raced in Woodland.
I n both meets, Madawaska placed first, with a score of 17 in Presque Isle and 20 in Woodland. Caribou also came in second in both, with a score of 35 in Presque Isle and 40 in Woodland.
Fort Kent and Union 122 tied for third in at the NHC meet with a score of 70, and Fort Kent placed third again in Woodland with a score of 68.
On March 14, the Presque Isle Middle School White Team came in forth, with a score of 83. Rounding out the scoring were: PIMS Blue Team in fifth, with 95, Fort Fairfield in sixth, at 115; and Ashland came in seventh, with an overall score of 149.
In Woodland, Union 122 barely missed third with a score of 69; Presque Isle White T≈eam was fifth, at 77; PIMS Blue Team was sixth, with 906; Fort Fairfield, seventh, with 113; and Ashland came in eighth with 133 points.
At the Nordic Heritage Center, the teams raced 2.5 kilometers on a rotary loop course. Alex Jandreau of Madawaska finished first with a time of 7 minutes and 48 seconds. Caleb Chapman, Caribou, was second at 8 minutes 13 seconds. Madawaska’s Darin Jandreau placed third at 8 minutes and 15 seconds.
Rounding out the top 10 at the meet were Jonathan Lee, Madawaska, at 8:40; Jonathan Lee, Madawaska, at 8:40; Logan Doak, Fort Kent, 8:55; Nathan McLaughlin, Fort Fairfield, 9:15; Carson Spencer, Caribou, 9:16; Christian Sleeper, Caribou, 9:24; Austin Bragdon, Madawaska, 9:35; and Gregorie Faucher, Madawaska, at 9:40.
Two days later, in Woodland, Alex Jandreau also finished first in the 3 kilometer race, with a time of 10 minutes and 27 seconds. Logan Doak came in second at 11:05, and Caleb Chapman placed third with a time of 11:11.
Rounding out the top 10 in Woodland were Nathan McLaughlin, with a time of 11:12; Jon Lee, Madawaska, at 11:17; Darin Jandreau, 11:21; Carson Spencer, at 11:38; Austin Bragdon, with a time of 12:00; Royce Landeen, of Union 122, in 2:22; and Christian Sleeper, finishing in 2:22.
