PRESQUE ISLE , Maine – The Presque Isle Middle School White Destination Imagination (DI) Team captured first place in the annual Destination Imagination competition held at the University of Maine at Orono Saturday, April 7.

The team’s achievement has earned them the opportunity to compete in Global DI, a worldwide event, being held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville from May 23-26. The team will be going to work between now and the Global Competition to raise the necessary $10,000 to travel to Knoxville to participate in this event.
The members of the winning team – Christen Allen, Nick Barclay, Zack Dow, Thomas Freeman, Kayla Girardin, Emma Michalowski, and coached by Alice McQuade – used team skills to plan, organize and perform a play based on visible light and evidence. This challenge, called CSI: DI, was one of two parts of the competition in which the team out-scored all other participating middle schools. The other part of the competition, “Instant Challenge,” was a spontaneous challenge, unknown until the time of competition.
SAD 1 was also represented by two other DI Teams at the state competition – Presque Isle Middle School Blue Team, which placed fourth in the state, and the Presque Isle High School Team, which placed third. Members of the PIMS Blue Team were Divya Bisht, Rilee Currie, Ross Harris, Megan Kaiser, Aidan Sawyer, Katie Schneider and Sophia Willette. The team was coached by Pam Willette. Members of the PIHS Team included Annie Johnson, Alicia Jones, Amanda Nadeau, Seth Doughty and Amy Michaud. The team was coached by Patricia Cole.
The White Team is now embarking on a fund-raising campaign to participate in the Knoxville, Tenn. global competition. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please contact Alice McQuade at Presque Isle Middle School, 764-4474.
