The Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library has several goals and objectives as part of the planning process and to make library services for the community outstanding. One way to strengthen a library organization is form a Friends group. To accomplish this, it is necessary to have a few volunteers.
In the near future, the Trustees and staff will hold an informational meeting for all those interested in becoming a member of our newly formed Friends of the Library group. Please watch for news related to a guest speaker and an event at the library for your opportunity to sign up.
Friends of the Library work with the staff and Library Trustees to raise money that enables libraries to move from good to great — providing the resources for additional programming, much needed equipment, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year.
The work of the Friends highlights on an on-going basis the fact that our library is the cornerstone of the community providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present.
The Friends understand the critical importance of well funded libraries and advocate to ensure that our library gets the resources it needs to provide a wide variety of services to all ages including access to print and electronic materials, along with expert assistance in research, readers’ advisory, and children’s services.
The Friends’ gift of their time and commitment to the library sets an example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and the betterment of our community.
October 21-28, 2007 is National Friends of the Library week and the Library Trustees and staff urge everyone to join the Friends of the Library and thank them for all they can do to make our library and community so much better. By then, we are hoping to have a core group of library lovers.
There will also be an opportunity to sign up at our Library Book and Bake Sale on July 7th and 8th at the library.
If you are interested in becoming a Friend of the Library, please call 764-2571 or email the library at sonjaplummer@presqueisle.lib.me.us for information.
