An avid alpine skier and a successful electrical engineer at a worldwide ski lift manufacturer in Utah would not be someone you’d expect to have a terrible ski accident, causing him to be a quadrapalegic.
But tragedy struck on March 1 of this year when 25-year-old Mike Chasse, a Presque Isle native, took a terrible fall while skiing with his family in Utah. The impact of the fall fractured his cervical spine at various levels, leaving him paralyzed below the chest.
Once a die hard athlete and outdoor enthusiast, Chasse is now confined to a wheelchair. However, he is not one to give up without a fight.
He is currently at Craig Hospital in Denver, Colo., one of the top rehabilitation centers in the world. He is recovering steadily everyday because of his determination and voracious personality.   Chasse is getting stronger each day so that he can feed himself and is mobile with help from his manual wheelchair that he maneuvers on his own. His progress is documented on a website, www.carepages.com, keyword, ChasseRehab. Another website has been created by his loved ones appropriately called www.mikechasse.com.
Since Chasse was a former patient at County Physical Therapy, the news of his accident was terribly upsetting to therapists and employees who know and respect his “never give up attitude.”
As a result, CPT has organized a raffle with over $4,000 in prizes to help pay for some of Chasse’s many medical expenses.
Items being raffled include, three FUJI mountain bikes, a Weber grill from SW Collins, 10 gym memberships from County Physical Therapy’s fitness centers, a kayak, CPT massages and a loaded gift basket. Tickets can be purchased for $10, or $20 for a set of three, from any CPT employee.
Those interested can also call the Caribou office at 498-3022.
