Maple Meadow Farm Festival

To the editor:
Friends, Aroostookans, countrymen and countrywomen, lend me your ears. If you missed the first annual Maple Meadow Farm Festival last Saturday and Sunday, well, you missed a lot. In fact, as far as I’m concerned, you missed the best event of the year thus far and probably will rate the best after the year’s over.
What I’m talking about is the grand happening which took place on the Gregg farm just a few miles from Presque Isle on the Mapleton Road. I have to say that the Greggs (including sons, daughter-in-law and girlfriend) orchestrated and successfully pulled off a festival chock full of items like horse plowing, wagon rides, mule plowing, vintage tractor plowing and vintage farm-equipment displays. Not only all that, but there were vendors of antiques, linens,  old bottles, turquoise jewelry, quilts, hand-crafted pine furniture, photos, fresh plants, homemade soaps and freshly squeezed honey. Plus … live music, hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade cookies, flowers, pulled pork and all kinds of baked items. More vendors are expected for next year. The turnout was spectacular! Next year, I hear, will be bigger and better.
Man o’ man, this area (Presque Isle and Mapleton) has been host to two great events in a row (don’t forget Glacier Girl). Gonna be hard to top that. Terry Gregg, proud patriarch, was overheard saying how he felt like Tom Sawyer, you know, getting his fall plowing done by others who were simply enjoying themselves.
I’d like to take credit for nicknaming the annual event , “Common Ground North”, but that goes to Darlene (you know who you are, right?). Seriously, don’t miss next year’s event or you’ll miss lots. Miriam, those were some of the best cookies I ever swallered.
