Ashland Rotary to hold annual golf tournament
The annual Ashland Rotary Club Four-Person Scramble will be held Saturday, July 21 at Portage Hills Country Club.
    Registration is from 8-9 a.m. at the clubhouse, but pre-registration is encouraged. A shotgun start will get under way at 9 a.m. There will be divisions for both men and women, with cash prizes awarded to the low gross and net scores. The entry fee is $125 per team, with a minimum handicap of 40.
A hole-in-one prize of a vehicle from Percy’s Auto Sales of Presque Isle will be up for grabs, while two round trip airline tickets to Boston are being donated by Colgan Air/U.S. Airways Express for closest to the pin.

Kids mountain bike rides
Every Tuesday through Aug. 21, kids mountain bike rides will be held at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle. Bikers ages 8 and up are welcome. Call 762-6972 for more information.
Summer biathlon events planned
The 10th Mountain Ski Center in Fort Kent is offering a citizens biathlon race and two other special events during the 2007 North American and National Summer Biathlon Championships, slated for July 12-15.
The citizens biathlon will be held Saturday and involves running a total of 1.5 kilometers with two shooting bouts on metal targets.
A new event is paintball biathlon, which will also take place Saturday. The rules include running three short loops with two shooting bouts. Participants shoot at paper targets and the fastest time wins.
All age groups and levels are encouraged to participate. Rifles, ammunition and instructions will be provided at the lodge.
On Sunday is the new golf cart sprint challenge. Teams of two must complete two golfing stages in the stadium and travel 1.5-kilometer laps, with the best time winning. One member of each team must be 18 years old to enter.

OAPI adds another Adventure Camp
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outdoor Adventure Program International is adding another week of Summer Adventure Camp July 16-20 for children  ages 9-12.
The camp will have slots available for 10 children and the cost is $125 per child. During the week participants will learn rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, basic map and compass skills, water safety, Leave No Trace Principles and trip leading skills. The $125 per child fee for the camp includes lunches and a T-shirt.
