Organizations
The Easton Field Days events went off with much fun and satisfaction, from the golf tournament and basketball tournament on Thursday, to the very end with the Singspriation on Sunday afternoon. The booths were busy, especially the food booths. The United Methodist Women’s craft booth was well supplied with pillows, holders, bags and quilts, which were mostly made by a housebound member, Lillian Flewelling. They really thank her for all her work. The Saturday morning breakfast this year was put on by the Easton Extension and was tasty. The parade that followed the breakfast was well supplied with floats, queens from other towns as well as Easton’s, the school band and many farm machines. The basketball tournament included summer teams from Ashland, Limestone, Fort Fairfield and Easton. On Thursday night Ashland played Fort, and Easton played Limestone. On Saturday evening, the two teams that lost on Thursday evening, Ashland and Limestone, played off with Ashland, the winner. The two Thursday evening winners were the Fort Fairfield Tigers and the Easton Bears, with Easton pulling it out at the last minute with two foul shots – a very exciting game. The Legion’s bean hole bean supper was well attended and the fireworks at dusk were a fun way to end that busy day. On Sunday the United Methodist Church held their annual church service in the little Union Church in River de Chute with nearly 40 in attendance. The afternoon Community Singspiration was also well attended with each of the town’s churches entertaining with song.
The Easton High School Class of ‘57 held their reunion during the Easton Field Days. They enjoyed a dinner at Slope’s Restaurant, rode on the float during the parade, enjoyed the Easton Bears’ basketball game and the Legion supper. After supper, they gathered at the Easton Odd Fellows Hall for a time of reminiscing and dancing. Those who were here were: Jim Hayden, of Great Bend, Kansas; Carl Clark, of Londonderry, N.H.; Delores Keegan Woodworth, of Lyman; Mickey Perry, of Houston, Texas; Dan Wathen and Judy Foren Wathen, of Augusta; Loomas Scott, Stanley Jordan and Evelyn Holmes Stickney, all of Easton. Those unable to be here were Christina Driscoll Cyr of Redwood, Cali.; Elaine DeMerchant Walker, of Trotwood, Ohio; Glenda Stickney, of Levant; and Gary Lynch of Sheffield, Penn. Those deceased from this class were: Sandra Wortman Lapointe, Dell Turner and Russell Lapointe.
