Willette achieves Eagle Scout status

In a ceremony held on May 7 at the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, Alex Willette, son of Pam and Mike Willette, of Presque Isle, was awarded his Eagle Scout badge, the highest rank a young man can earn with the Boy Scouts of America.
In order to obtain the ran of Eagle Scout, Alex had to prove his organization and leadership skills by putting them to use in a community service project. Alex’s project included constructing a handicapped-accessible ramp and to reorganize the shelves and products inside for easier shopping for the patrons at GIFT, an interfaith food pantry that is located on Industrial Street in Presque Isle. The patrons and workers who frequent there are now enjoying Alex’s accomplishment.
Alex has been involved in Boy Scouts since the age of 10 and earned the Arrow of Light Award with Pack 170, before joining Troop 170 in Mapleton under the leadership of Bud and Belinda Hoffses. After recently moving to Presque Isle, he finished his requirements under the leadership of Tom and Kathy Peary from Troop 171.
During his membership in the Boy Scouts, Alex attended the 2005 National Jamboree in Fort AP Hill, Va. He served as lodge chief for the Pamola Lodge Order of the Arrow and attended N”OAC conventions with the OA.
Alex is a senior at Presque Isle High School and currently serves as president of the student council. He plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington and major in political science.
