To the editor:
In my haste writing my last column, “Those Men And Their Flying Machines”, I accused Gene Autry of having presented Roy Rogers’ horse, Trigger, on stage at the 1954 Northern Maine Fair. Well, a friend of mine e-mailed me and “Wondered why Roy Rogers would let Gene Autry bring his horse to Presque Isle. Was it for summer camp (grazing), perhaps? I’ll bet Champion was upset.”
Well, I’m upset (very upset) for making such a dumb mistake. I have since enrolled in a remedial course at the college, a course for dummies who need to brush up on their kidhood heroes whom they watched at the movies every Saturday afternoon a long time ago.
My sincerest apology goes to the Gene Autry family, a family member (Gene) accused of caring for a rival’s horse. How low can one go? Hope this satisfies some Hollywood attorney representing Gene Autry Entreprises, otherwise, I’ll be looking at 5-10 in San Quentin.
