PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Since its founding in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has worked diligently to preserve wetlands for not only waterfowl but other wildlife and humans, thanks to fund-raising events like the dinner planned September 8 in the Star City. “The annual Ducks Unlimited Dinner is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle,” said organization member Nick Archer.
Prior to dinner, guests will have the opportunity to peruse the many items up for auction. After dinner, the bidding will begin. Participants will also have the opportunity to play games and buy raffle tickets, with proceeds going to support the organization and its efforts to preserve wetlands.
Last year’s dinner and auction set a record, raising just over $11,000 for the cause. Organizers hope this year’s event will be a record-breaker too.
“We’d like to do as well or better than last year,” said Archer.
From paintings to hunting equipment, there’s sure to be something for just about everyone’s taste at this year’s fund-raiser.
Chairman of this year’s event is Grant Brees, of Benedicta. For more information, e-mail grbrees@fairpoint.net; visit online www.ducks.org; or contact the national headquarters at 901-758-3825.
