Harvest goes international
South Wade Farms and another entity consisting of owners Larry Hallowell, Sheldon Cunningham and Herb Klei have recently leased some of their farm land and it made for an interesting mix of cultures.
They leased the lands out to Jay McCrum who also leased it out to Greg Smith. A crop of broccoli was planted. It is now ready for harvest. A crew was seen on the hill behind the old Bugbee Farm in Washburn last week, sporting three flags. Represented by the flags were the countries of Mexico, El Salvador and the United States.
Sperrey family reunion
Descendants of Everett and Cora Sperrey recently enjoyed some time in the County visiting family and friends. Loren and Brenda Sperrey of Fayetteville, N.C., spent a couple of days with Loren’s parents, Atwood and Dot Sperrey. While in the area, a Sperrey reunion was held at the Crouseville Mission building with 64 family members in attendance.
Loren Sperrey Jr. and his wife, Jane, and two girls, Jenna and Ashley, traveled from New York; and Shaun and Rhonda Sperrey and their sons, Brandon and Chandler, came from Bangor for the event.
Kendall and Kathleen Sperrey and their sons, Kaleb and Kyle, made the trip up from Millinocket. Many other relatives came from the surrounding areas. The oldest attending members of the Sperrey family to attend were Atwood and Dot Sperrey, of Washburn. The couple are both 87 years old and have been married for a record 68 years. Atwood and Dot were part of the August Festival Parade, riding in an antique 1921 automobile owned and driven by Armand Godin.
