PI girls prevail, Ashland squads still unbeaten

The Presque Isle girls are still undefeated after shutting out Ellsworth Saturday, 2-0, behind goals from Brittany Bearden and Sarah Porter.
The Lady Wildcats stood at 2-0-2 heading into last night’s game at Fort Kent. Allisen Donovan had the shutout in goal as she saved five of six Eagle shot attempts.

That same afternoon, the PI and Ellsworth boys teams played to a scoreless tie. PI held a 13-5 advantage in the shots on goal department. Goalies Dillon Kingsbury of Presque Isle and Greg Berry of Ellsworth were each credited with shutouts. Presque Isle’s record is now 2-1-1.
The Easton boys blanked Washburn Monday, 9-0, to move its mark to 9-3. Brad Trask and Nate Sanders each had hat tricks, while Corey White scored twice and Jeremy Brock had one. The Bears were beaten by Ashland and Southern Aroostook, but picked up wins over both Limestone/MSSM and East Grand during a busy week of action.
The Ashland boys are now 5-0 after a 3-0 blanking of Central Aroostook Thursday, the Hornets’ third shutout victory of the season. Carl Nemer converted passes by Tyler Cote into two first-half goals, while Nick Gimbel scored the Hornet’s other goal, off a Kenny Tarr assist also in the first half.
Lucas Belanger saved 10 of 21 shots in goal for Ashland, while CA’s Logan McCarthy saved 14 of 20. The Panthers were 5-2 winners over Washburn last Tuesday. Zac Stetson opened the scoring for Central Aroostook, while Emanuel Martinez tallied two goals and Blake McCarthy and Kasey Brewer added one each later in the game. Nick McIntosh and Kyle Huston were the goal scorers for Washburn.
Washburn’s girls squad reeled off three convincing wins last week to improve to 7-2 on the year. The latest victory came Monday at home against Easton by an 8-0 margin. Erica MacDougall and Alex Bird netted three goals each, while Kelsee McLaughlin and Meaghan Saucier each had a goal. McLaughlin and Morgan Berube both collected two assists.
Easton picked up its first win of the season Saturday, beating East Grand, 4-0 behind three goals by Brooke Hammond and a single goal off the foot of Katie Cyr. Taylor Burtt saved all 17 shots she faced for the win in goal.
The Ashland girls were 4-0-1 entering last night’s game in Van Buren. On Thursday, the Lady Hornets topped Central Aroostook, 2-0 behind unassisted goals by Jacky Raymond. Taylor Baker needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout in net.
