PRESQUE ISLE – A two-vehicle accident on Main Street in front of JP Cash Market sent a local woman to the hospital the morning of Oct. 22. “Mildred Philbrook, 73, of Presque Isle, was traveling north on Main Street at about 11:30 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Allen Burlock, 36, of Presque Isle,” said Sgt. Laurie Kelly, of the Presque Isle Police Department.
Burlock was reportedly trying to enter Main Street from Davis Street when the accident occurred.
“A northbound tractor-trailer truck was in the outside lane headed north. The truck driver motioned Burlock out onto Main Street. Burlock didn’t yield to the inside lane, striking Philbrook’s vehicle,” said Kelly.
Kelly said both Burlock’s 1996 Chevy S10 pickup and Philbrook’s 1993 Ford Taurus sustained front-end damage, estimated at about $4,000 per vehicle.
Philbrook was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The Presque Isle Fire Department also responded to assist at the scene. Both drivers were insured. Traffic was slowed along Main Street until the scene was cleared. No charges were brought as the result of the accident.
