Crimestoppers seek public’s help

It’s called joyriding, but don’t be mislead by the name: it’s still against the law. Crimestoppers need help in solving their Crime of the Month.
Squealing tires and erratic driving lead to the investigation of three motor vehicle thefts in the Mars Hill area in March of 2007.
Around 4 a.m. on March 14, Maine State Police were dispatched to investigate a pickup with a headlight and tail light out. The truck had reportedly been following other cars in a suspicious manner. The trooper located the vehicle and, as he was about to stop the truck, the driver hopped out and fled on foot. The trooper says he was wearing a two-tone jacket. The suspect got away, but subsequent investigation revealed the truck, owned by Geary Bonnville, had been stolen from behind McCrum’s potato house on Lincoln Street in Mars Hill.
Also that same morning a white pickup truck, owned by Franklin Kinney, was discovered at Smith’s truck stop. It also had been taken illegally during the night. And finally a third pickup was recovered which was taken from the Westfield home of Charles Hotham. Police are working leads and have some suspects.
