HOULTON — Houlton Police officers responded to a serious incident early Saturday morning on the North Street bridge. At approximately 8:22 a.m. on Nov. 3 Cpl. Dana Duff arrived on scene to find a woman who was threatening to leap from the bridge. Officer Ezekiel Collins assisted Cpl Duff.
Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin said the officers remained calm, despite the fact that the woman attempted to gain access to one of the officer’s weapons.
“She had been drinking a little bit and wanted to jump off the bridge,” explained Chief Asselin. “She thought Officer Collins was her son. She was taken into protective custody and transported to the Houlton Regional Hospital and they evaluated her.”
Chief Asselin said the 46-year-old woman was from Woonsocket, R.I. He said the officers acted with professionalism and did not panic at all.
“They’re very patient and they did a good job,” he said.
