Randy Brooker, owner of Hometown Fuels, Hometown 1 Stop and Brooker Construction, was recently honored as the Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce’s 2007 Business of the Year. He stopped Friday for a photo at the site of the former Limestone Fire Department, which his company is tearing down.
Geri Martin, vice president of the Chamber, presented Randy Brooker, owner of Hometown Fuels, Hometown 1 Stop and Brooker Construction, the 2007 Business of the Year. Brooker was also presented with an additional plaque for all of his dedication to the Chamber this year including building, at no charge, a new Chamber Booth that can be used at all functions. “Randy always goes above and beyond what is expected,” Martin said.
The Chamber’s 2007 Year in Review was prepared and read by Lisa Anderson, secretary of the organization. Her report follows:
“Our first big event of 2007 was the Citizen of the Year Banquet. The 2007 Citizen of the Year Award recipients were Raymond and Marilyn Beaulieu They were all very surprised, but pleased and they truly appreciated being recognized.
“In April we held our second annual Dinner and Variety Show. This was a big hit again this year. The success of this event is evidence of the commitment and passion that our Chamber directors have for making Limestone a great place to live. The Chamber would like to give a special thank you to Jane Griffeth for working endlessly to make this event happen!
“Limestone’s Independence Day Celebrations included activities for people of all ages. The events included the Teddy Bear Picnic, Street Dance, Customer Appreciation Days, a tractor pull, a car show, and afternoon of music in the park and many more. On July 4th the weather held out for our legendary parade which was followed by music, food, games and, of course, the fireworks. Again, Limestone’s 4th of July celebrations was a community wide effort that we can take pride in,” said Anderson.
In 2007 The Greater Limestone Chamber also :
• Worked with the town to welcome back soldiers returning from a tour of duty in Iraq.
• Sponsored home and business decorating contest.
• Sold Limestone theme candles and Limestone Chamber tote bags.
• Welcomed three new businesses at the Loring Commerce Center — Majave Property, Kevric Farms and Biglow Areo Space.
• Business activity also included the expansion of the DFAS center, which now has 543 employees and will continue to grow to 660 people in the near future.
“Overall, it’s been a great year for the Limestone and Caswell communities and with the help of our many volunteers the Chamber will work to make 2008 even better,” Anderson added.
