The Maine State Federation of Firefighters got a boost for their educational burn program for Aroostook County from a fund-raising event held earlier this year.     The fourth annual Learn-Not-To-Burn Poker Run, sponsored by the Pine State Motorcycle Club, was deemed a success this year, raising much-needed funds that will be used to continue to educate the public on fire safety.
Approximately 60 motorcycles and 106 participants made the run, raising a total of $885 for the Maine State Federation of Firefighters’ educational burn program for the County. This year’s run was hosted by the Ashland Fire Department, with stops at departments in Fort Fairfield and Mars Hill, as well as Whitey’s Market in Oakfield, before riders returned to the firehouse in Ashland.
The best hand went to Daniel Raymond, who held four 6s that earned him the top prize of $100. Most players took home door prizes for participating.
Donations were made by businesses and individuals from the following communities: Ashland, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Caribou, Easton and Bridgewater.
Participants finished off the day enjoying a chicken barbeque, complete with all the fixings, at the Ashland Fire Department.
