Presque Isle Girls’ grades three and four basketball
The Black Bears jumped out to a 12-6 halftime lead en route to the 20-11 victory over the Terriers. Taylor Williams poured in 12 points to pace the Black Bears. Alison Bell chipped in with four points, while the duo of Regan Nelson and Leslie Mejia each tallied two points. Olivia Hudson and Michaela Dumais finished with four points apiece to lead the Terriers. Alisa Brewer rounded out the Terriers’ attack with three points. The Terriers also got some great hustle and play from Annabelle Crowe.
Olivia Hudson scorched the nets for a season high 16 points to lead the Terriers to the 21-13 decision versus the Irish. Alisa Brewer and Michaela Dumais each contributed two points, and Amy Seeley finished with one point. Gina El Nesr was the high scorer for the Irish, finishing with eight points. Grace Braley scored the other five Irish points.

Boys’ grades three and four basketball
Michigan and Syracuse hooked up Wednesday to give us a double overtime thriller. Syracuse prevailed, 14-13, thanks to a free throw from Caleb Nadeau. Nadeau contributed three points to the balanced Syracuse attack. Patrick Cash led the way for Syracuse with five points. Joseph Boone nailed two long jumpers for four points, and Grant Bridges scored two points. Michigan was led by a game high seven points from Kyle Rider. Brandon McLean tallied four points and Nick Bartlett rounded out the Michigan attack with two points.
Marcus Ouellette scored two baskets off fantastic passes from Michael Mahon to spark an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter, helping North Carolina take the 18-11 decision. Noah Kinney had the hot hand for North Carolina, toasting the nets for a game high 10 points. Ouellette followed with four points, and Grant Stewart and Nicolas Shields each chipped in with two points. Connor Murchison led Duke with five points. Byron Winslow finished with four points, and Andrew Kirk added two points.
Arizona overcame a 10-0 halftime deficit to pull of the exciting 18-14 victory over Michigan in the final game of the season. Jake Kinney notched a team high 11 points to spark the rally. Bradley Kinney, Dylan Lovely and Issac Devine each finished with two points, and Nick Powers ended with one point. Kyle Rider poured in a game high 12 points, and Cole Staples added two points.
Cheerleading
The Department has started taking registration for its cheerleading program. The program is available for grades four to six.
The program will be held weekdays after school beginning in January. Participants will have practices and will cheer at our local league games. The cost is $15.
New Year’s overnight party
The Department will be hosting a New Year’s overnight for children grades one to five in the S.A.D. 1 communities. Parents may drop off kids starting at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, and pick up is by 8 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Parents can celebrate New Year’s Eve without having to worry about their kids. The children will enjoy pizza, swimming, bingo, gym games, movies and a New Year’s celebration.
Pre-registration is required, and limited spaces are available. The cost is $20 per child.
Big Rock ski passes
The Department has discounted lift tickets for Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill. Junior (ages 6 to 17) lift tickets will be sold for $17, while adult lift tickets will be sold for $22.

Youth cross country skiing program and rentals
The Department will hold a youth cross country skiing program this winter. The program will be for students grades three to eight. The program will run on Thursdays from Jan. 17th to Feb. 14th, then Wednesdays from Feb. 27th to Mar. 26th, from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. There will also be meetings on Saturdays from Jan. 19th to Mar. 29th from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with the exception of Feb. 23rd. The fee for the program is $15 for Presque Isle residents, non-residents will be charged an additional fee.
Fort Fairfield Open gym
The Community Center Gymnasium and Game Room is open to the public for free play on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from noon to 4 p.m. The facility will also be open each day during Christmas vacation from noon to 4 p.m. except on Christmas day. There is no charge to participate. Everyone is reminded to please carry in your gym sneakers to minimize the salt and water on the gym floor.
Adult basketball
The Community Center Gymnasium is open for adult basketball (18 and over) on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $1 each night.
Co-ed volleyball
The Community Center Gymnasium is open for adult co-ed volleyball (16 and over) on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $1 each night.
Youth travel basketball
Any boys or girls in grades four to six currently participating in the Fort Fairfield Youth Basketball Program on Wednesday and Saturday who would also like to play on the recreation travel basketball teams, practice will be held on Tuesdays at the Community Center Gymnasium and Fridays at the Elementary School Gymnasium. The boys’ team will practice on Tuesdays from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. and on Fridays from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. The girls’ team will practice on Tuesdays from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. and on Fridays from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m.
Pee wee and youth basketball
Pee wee basketball for boys and girls in grades one to three and youth basketball for boys and girls in grades four to six is currently underway at the Community Center. The pee wee program is held on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons and will continue into February. The youth program is held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and will also continue into February. Indoor walking and jogging
The Community Center is open to the public for walking and jogging Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to noon, except on holidays. There is no charge to participate.
Tubing at Big Rock
The Department is sponsoring a field trip to Big Rock Mountain to go snow tubing on Wednesday, Dec. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. The bus will depart from the Community Center at 12:15 p.m. and return at approximately 4:45 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, which includes the tubing ticket and transportation. Registration forms will be handed out at school or you may pick one up at the Community Center prior to the day of the trip. Participants must be at least nine years of age or older, or be accompanied by an adult in order to attend.
Adventure at Gentile Hall
The Department is sponsoring a field trip to Gentile Hall at University of Maine at Presque Isle on Thursday, Dec. 27 from noon to 3 p.m. The bus will depart from the Community Center at 11:30 a.m. and return at approximately 3:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. Registration forms will be handed out at school or you may pick one up at the Community Center prior to the day of the trip. Participants must be at least nine years of age to attend or be accompanied by an adult.
Movie matinee
The Department is sponsoring a field trip the Caribou Cinema on Monday, Dec. 31 to see either “The Chipmunks” or “National Treasurer Book of Secrets”. The cost is $5 per person, which includes transportation, admission to the movie and a soda and popcorn. The bus will depart from the Community Center at 12:15 p.m. and return at approximately 3:15 p.m. Registration forms will be handed out at school or you may pick one up at the Community Center prior to the date of the trip.
Ice rink open
The outdoor ice rink will be open by Saturday, Dec. 22. Hours will be from noon to 4 p.m. each day during Christmas vacation and every Saturday and Sunday throughout the winter. The rink will also be open after school each day from 3 to 5 p.m. Skates are available to borrow at the rink if you do not have your own.
