Monticello – Verna J. Brewer, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle on February 6, 2008. She was born in Washburn July 7, 1914 the daughter of Miles and Jessie (Carmichael) Peterson.
Verna and her husband Herman operated a grocery store in Bridgewater. She was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly Pentecostal Church in Bridgewater.
Verna is survived by a son, Edward C. Boyce Sr. of Monticello; grandchildren Eugene Boyce and his wife Tressa of Presque Isle, Sonja Boyce of Lewiston, Jerry Boyce of Texas, Pam Pennington of W. Virginia, Tina Bell of Houlton, Larry Dean Boyce of Bentonville, Ark., Daniel Boyce and his fiancé Pauline Somers of Ellsworth, Diane Emery and her husband Tyrone of Cary, Sandra Lee and her husband Kenny, Janet Boyce and her fiancé Fred Botting of Houlton and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including a special niece Doris Sargent of Monticello. Doris’s devotion and care was gratefully appreciated by her Aunt Verna. Also surviving her are four sisters-in-law, Louise Peterson of Monticello, Margaret Peterson of Bangor, Cora Decatur of York and Marge Brewer of Bridgewater. She was predeceased by her husband Herman Brewer, a son Lawrence Boyce and his wife Donna; two grandchildren, Edward Boyce Jr. and Hilda (Bonnie) Pennington; two brothers, Harold and Burns Peterson and two sisters, Florence Hersey and Glenna Briggs.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgewater Full Gospel Assembly with Pastor Frank Randall officiating. Relatives and friends called at the church from 12 noon until the time of the service. A spring interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Bridgewater. Those who wish may make gifts in her memory to the Church. Many thanks to grandson Danny Boyce and his fiancé Pauline Somers, Doris Sargent and Louise Peterson for the wonderful care at the hospital and the doctors and nurses for being so helpful and caring.
