DeMerchant retires from Border Patrol

    David W. DeMerchant of Caribou, left, retired Jan. 3 from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection after 19 years of service. Presenting DeMerchant with a plaque and a watch is Christopher J. Sullivan, area port director. DeMerchant started his federal career at an immigration inspector at the port of Vanceboro on Dec. 18, 1988 and has worked as inspector at Bangor International Airport; port director at Savannah, Ga., special operations inspector at Ottawa, Ontario and port director at Van Buren. Prior to his federal service, he worked at the Fort Fairfield Police Department. DeMerchant and his wife, Marcia, have four children, eight grandchildren, and one great- grandchild. They plan to play golf, travel and visit family and friends.
