McNamee first on XC skis, Park places second for boys

    FORT KENT – The Aroostook League Championship classical cross country ski race featured a Caribou and Presque Isle first- and second-place finish last Thursday as the County teams competed at 10th Mountain’s trails.     Viking Joey Bard finished in first in 15:54, and Wildcat Corey Park clocked into second at 16:35.
    Individual boys’ results follow: 4, Finn Bondeson (C) 17:47; 7, Andrew Levesque (C) 18:36; 8, Lucas Mathers (PI) 18:45; 9, Jesse Stephens (C) 18:54; 10, Spencer McElwain (C) 18:58; 11, Noah Rush Mabry (FF) 18:59; 13, Joel Whitaker (PI) 19:38; 16, Jordon Albert (C) 19:45; 17, Ian Towle (FF) 20:13; 18, Ethan Garrison (CA) 20:21; 22, Matt Graves (CA) 21:14; 25, Eric Morris (PI) 22:09; 27, Patrick Kinsey (FF) 22:31; 28, Brandon Hafford (PI) 22:32; 29, Paul Elish (PI) 23:19; 30, Greg Cousins (CA) 24:28; and 31, Nate Donovan (CA) 25:34.
    Caribou had the low score of 20 points followed by Fort Kent in second and Presque Isle in third. Fort Fairfield placed fifth and Central Aroostook took sixth after counting the team scores.
    Fort Fairfield senior Hillary McNamee topped the girls’ ski competition with a time of 19:36. Caribou’s Laura Collins crossed at second in 21:47.
    Individual girls’ results follow: 4, Lindsey Cote (C) 22:23; 5, Erin Thomas (PI) 23:03; 7, Hallie Bartlett (PI) 24:01; 10, Erika McKay (PI) 24:40; 12, Kristina McKenny (PI) 24:51; 13, Julia Brown (PI) 25:00; 14, Lily Sund (C) 25:08; 15, Madison Outing (C) 25:25; 17, Alecia Palmer (PI) 27:01; 18, Nicole Madore (C) 27:45; 19, Karcynn Dorcey (C) 29:37; 20, Samantha Lewis (FF) 34:03; and 21, Aaryn Bernier (CA) 36:25.
    The Wildcats combined scores to put themselves in second place behind Fort Kent. Caribou placed third followed by Fort Fairfield, Madawaska and Central Aroostook.
County skiers qualifies for New England Championships
    Six cross country skiers from Aroostook County represented their high schools at the Sassi Memorial race in Rumford over the first weekend of February. The event is the largest and most competitive high school cross country ski race in the state of Maine.
    Danni Anderson-Packard, of Presque Isle High School, raced fast enough to qualify for the Maine team.
