NEW LIMERICK — Voters will be asked to consider approval of a comprehensive plan when New Limerick residents gather for their annual town meeting next week.
“This has been in the works for a number of years,” explained Town Manager Judy Nightingale. “The comprehensive plan is a state requirement for all towns; it’s something that’s designed to provide a snapshot of where we are now and also serve as a guide for where the town might want to go in the future.”
A $334,065 municipal budget is also up for consideration this year. Nightingale said that amount is up from last year, due mostly to increases in road maintenance costs. The town is also proposing to raise $75,000 for reserves, but Nightingale said this amount is expected to be offset by the increased value of the newly-expanded Louisiana-Pacific mill.
At the polls, voters will choose a selectmen for a 3-year term and an SAD 70 director for a 3-year term. Incumbent Mark Stile is the only one running for the selectman’s office; no one has taken out papers for the SAD 70 board vacancy.
On Monday, March 31, polls will be open from 2 to 6 p.m. and the regular meeting will convene at 7 p.m. that night. Both voting and the meeting will be at the town office, 11 Station Rd.
