AMITY — Amity voters will gather March 29 to set their municipal budget and elect one new selectman for the coming year.
According to information supplied by Town Manager Margaret Fry, voters will be asked to approve $92,976 in proposed municipal appropriations. This total, which doesn’t include funds for education and county taxes, is down just over $21,000 from last year.
Fry said they’re using money from surplus and anticipated revenue from the state to keep municipal expenses in line.
Among the items on this year’s warrant is the startup of a $10,000 road fund. Fry said some citizens have asked that the town start building that fund, and, so in response to that request, they’ve added an article to the warrant, asking if voters will approve the $10,000 appropriation for future capital improvements.
Nominations will be taken from the floor to fill one 3-year term on the Board of Selectmen. Glendon Clifford, who currently holds that position, has decided not to run again.
Amity’s town meeting will convene at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the Reed School Building, 1143 U.S. Route 1.
