Fireman’s Ball
The Mars Hill Fire Department will hold their annual Fireman’s Ball fund-raiser on Saturday, April 26, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at he Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center. Cost is $20 per couple in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased from any Mars Hill fireman. The band for the evening will be Overdrive. You must be 21 years of age to attend.
Rotary discusses bypass
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met at the Aroostook Health Center on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:30 a.m. Special guests were Mikala Woollard, Janine Stackpole and Jennifer Tweedie, directors of the recent Miss Greater and Little Miss Mars Hill pageants, who were thanked for the fantastic job they did with the pageant.
Rotarian Steve Hitchcock spoke about a committee that is being formed in town to study recycling and ways to increase participation in the area. They will also look into increasing the products that are recycled and ways to dispose of the products. If you are interested in being part of this committee, please contact either Steve Hitchcock or Ray Mersereau, town manager.
The guest speaker was Robert Watson, Northern Region manager, MDOT. He spoke about the bypasses that are being considered for Presque Isle and Caribou. There are many things that go into each proposed route, and any change to a route requires examination by the Army Corps of Engineers.
There are funds available to be used on the Presque Isle bypass, but nothing can be done until the permits
are issued. Any work done in Aroostook County will be done in sections. Watson hopes that the final route for both Presque Isle and Caribou are chosen by late 2008. Construction could begin in 2010 – 2011 if all the design work, etc., is done. Information on the different routes can be viewed at www.vhb.com/Aroostook.
He spoke of some of the roadwork that will be done in the area this summer. Some sections of road will be milled and repaved in Mars Hill, Westfield, Presque Isle, Caribou and Houlton. Some areas near Cross Lake will also be done, although that is expected to be a two-year project. There will also be a section of I-95 done near Benedicta.
ACI/CAHS Reunion
Plans for the ACI/CAHS Reunion for 2008 are under way. A meeting was held to finalize the events planned, which include dinners, a parade, motorcycle rodeo, a variety show, gospel concert and dance. Make plans now to be around on July 24 – 26 for all the activities!
There will be a meeting on May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the High School to pick up the next informational letter to go out. They should be mailed or delivered by May 15.
Students of the Month
In a continuing effort to recognize outstanding student citizenship, the faculty of Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School announces that Rachael Grew and David Smith have been selected as the March
Students of the Month. They were selected in recognition of their commitment to the pillar of character, specifically the pillar for the 2007-2008 school year, respect.
Rachael is a member of the eighth-grade class and lists science and social studies as her favorite subjects. Rachael enjoys being a member of the yearbook staff, and playing on the junior high soccer, basketball and softball teams. In her spare time, Rachael likes to play soccer and basketball and hang out with her friends. She hopes to maintain good grades and someday become a pharmacist. Rachael is the daughter of Glen and Tracie Grew.
David is a member of the sophomore class and lists advanced English, science, French and horticulture as his favorite subjects. David is part of the Computer Tech II after-school program, and enjoys walking, camping, gaming and producing AMVs (music videos). He hopes to someday become a video game designer or an animator. David is the son of Kevin and Heidi Smith.
Bridgewater Community Club
The Bridgewater Community Club will meet on Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at the home of Eva Prest, 440 Boundary Line Road, Bridgewater.
The Community Club has been organized to promote friendship among women of all ages and to undertake projects that improve the community. Membership dues are one dollar per month, and all interested women are invited to attend.

Bridgewater Family Sundays
During April, the Bridgewater Recreation Department will be offering Sunday afternoon activities for families. Please plan to bring your family each Sunday for a few hours of fun. These will be family days, so no drop offs will be allowed!
The dates for these fun days will be April 20 and 27 at the Bridgewater Grammar School from 2 – 4 p.m. A variety of activities will be offered from snowshoeing, sliding, open gym, board games and more.

If you have any that your family does not use and you would like to donate them to the Bridgewater Recreation Department, they would greatly appreciate the donation. Sesquicentennial events
A display of quilts and quilted items is being planned as part of Bridgewater’s July 24 – 26, Sesquicentennial Celebration.
This event, “Quilts Old and New,” will be held on Saturday, July 26, at the Bridgewater Free Baptist Church from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Quilt Show Committee invites your participation in the planning.
The Committee hopes that the event will result in a group of people who are interested in meeting on a monthly basis to encourage and support both new and experienced quilters.
