PRESQUE ISLE – In a competition April 12 that saw 12 contestants compete for the title of Little Miss Presque Isle 2008 and six competitors for the Junior Miss Presque Isle 2008 title, it was Madison Bearden and Hanna Patterson who walked away victors in their respective categories.
HANNA PATTERSON looked like a star in the spotlight as she danced her way to the title of Junior Miss Presque Isle 2008 during the April 12 pageant.
Madison Bearden, daughter of Kathy Bearden and Jeff Bearden, entertained at the standing-room-only event by dancing to “You Are the Music In Me,” taking the crown as Little Miss Presque Isle 2008.
With 12 Little Miss candidates to choose from, the judges had their work cut out for them.
First runner-up for Little Miss Presque Isle was Casey Estabrook, daughter of Clif and Heidi Estabrook. Performing as Sally Brown, the “Peanuts” character, she danced to “Don’t Be Anything Less Than You” – reflective of the evening’s theme of ‘Bee’ Yourself. Estabrook also won the award for Miss Hospitality, selling $1,760 in tickets for the show.
Second runner-up was Mayce Kinney, daughter of Kim and Jirad Kinney. She performed a dance routine to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” For her performance, Kinney received the Talent Award and was named first runner-up for Miss Hospitality, selling $1,384 in tickets.
Libbee Currie, daughter of Sheila and G. Noel Currie III, sang a mix of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and “Catch a Falling Star.” She was named second runner-up for Miss Hospitality, selling $1,060 in tickets.
Kimberly Cook, daughter of Kevin and Susan Cook, was named third runner-up for Miss Hospitality, with ticket sales of $725. She danced a clogging number to “Don’t Stop Moving.”
The title of Miss Congeniality went to Emily Poitras, daughter of Brian and Kathy Poitras. She provided a monologue on her love of horses.
Sadie Faye, daughter of P.J. and Kelley Kinney, sang a song from the musical “Annie,” entitled “Tomorrow.”
Miranda Bragan, daughter of Tricia and Spencer Bragan, provided a musical monologue, with her rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
Yessenia Vilar, daughter of Jasmine Cote, clogged for the judges to the tune “Hold Me,” a song by Fleetwood Mac.
Kasey Haley, daughter of Troy and Kelly Gumprecht and Fred and Jessica Haley, donned a wig and sunglasses to capture the image of Hannah Montana as she did a lip sync/dance routine to “Life Is What You Make It.”
Sherralyn Robbins, daughter of Scott and Casey Johnson and Mark and Veronica Robbins, sang “On Top of Spaghetti.”
Kiara Lyford, daughter of Hal and Gail Lyford, did a jazz dance routine to “The Year 3,000.”
The Junior Miss title went to Hanna Patterson, daughter of Ariana Patterson and Derrick Kinney, who danced to “Ease On Down the Road.”
Erica Hemphill was selected as first runner-up. The daughter of Eric and Kelly Hemphill, she also received the Talent Award for her dance routine to Collective Soul’s “Hollywood.”
Barbara Bonville, daughter of Candy Bonville, was named second runner-up and took the award for Miss Hospitality, selling $500 in tickets. She performed a dance routine to “Higher Ground.”
Christian Hallowell, daughter of Peter and Athena Hallowell, was named Miss Congeniality. She played the piano for her talent, entertaining with “My Heart Will Go On,” from the movie “Titanic.”
Paige Haley, daughter of Tony and Kelly Gumprecht and Fred and Jessica Haley, provided a self-composed monologue entitled “My Little Sister.”
Brittany Page, daughter of Caroline and Donald Page, danced for her talent to the tune “Footloose.”
Taking the stage as queens for the last time were Maddison Cleaves, Little Miss Presque Isle 2007, and Kate Campbell, Junior Miss Presque Isle 2007.
Emcees for the evening were Rebeckah and Michael Perry.
This year’s pageant set a fund-raising record for United Way of Aroostook, according to Claudia Stevens, executive director of UWA.
“We raised over $8,000 last year and that was a record-braking year. That record was broken this year, with $9,542 raised through sponsorships and ticket sales,” said Stevens, as she suggested taking the girls on the campaign trail this year. “They know how to raise money. You’re the future of United Way and we thank you.”
Bearden and Patterson now have a busy year ahead of them, as they prepare for various appearances in parades and festivities around Aroostook County, including this summer’s Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield. Patterson was spotted on Saturday at the Kiwanis Home, Garden & Recreation Show, already assuming the duties of Junior Miss Presque Isle 2008, mingling with the crowd at the annual event at the Forum. As the weather continues to warm, watch for the new queens as they make more public appearances.
MADISON BEARDEN’S energetic dance number proved to the judges she has the energy to represent the city as Little Miss Presque Isle 2008.
MAYCE KINNEY, dressed the part of Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” sang her way to second runner-up and took the Talent Award for her efforts at the Little Miss Presque Isle pageant.
BARBARA BONVILLE was ready for spring, as she took the stage for the Sportswear segment during the April 12 pageant. Bonville was named Junior Miss PI second runner-up.
ERICA HEMPHILL received the talent award for her dance performance at the April 12 pageant in Presque Isle, as well as the honor of first runner-up.
CASEY ESTABROOK almost looked like she was scolding the judges as she entertained at the Little Miss Presque Isle pageant April 12. For her effort, Estabrook was named first runner-up and was named Miss Hospitality for her fund-raising efforts.
KATE CAMPBELL, Junior Miss Presque Isle 2007, took her final walk as queen on the arm of her dad, Peter Campbell, during the April 12 pageant at PIHS.
