Ashland, CAHS start ‘08 ball season with perfect record

    ASHLAND – Senior pitcher Whitney Flint helped Ashland shut out Hodgdon in Monday’s softball game to win their season opener, 18-0. Flint allowed only two hits and struck out 11 with two walks.     At bat, Flint hit a homer to drive in three runs and added an RBI double and an RBI single for the Hornets.
    Mindy Chasse had two singles for two runs, and Andrea Mayo added two singles, a double, a triple and an RBI.
    On the baseball field, the Hornets also claimed the home opener against Hodgdon, 13-2.
    Ashland’s Henry Milligan led the offense with a triple and three singles for two runs and tagged home plate three times. Justin Belanger’s homerun put through two runs, and Carl Nemer doubled for two runs.
    The pitching combination of Jeremy Tarr and Tony Baker allowed no earned runs with two hits and 11 strikeouts.
Pathers’ season starts out right
    Central Aroostook’s softball and baseball teams held their own at their home diamond last Monday against Madawaska.
    At the baseball field, Madawaska tried to make a comeback in the final inning but CAHS held them off for the 9-6 final. Cameron York led the offense with a triple that scored two runs. Logan McLaughlin added two singles and one RBI for the Panthers.
    On the softball field, Madawaska had no answer to Central Aroostook’s offense who led the Panthers to the 19-3 win. Kristen Long hit a triple and single for four RBIs, and Ashley Estabrook added a double and single with two runs for CAHS. Rachel Donahue singled for two runs.
Cougars defend home diamond
    Fort Fairfield’s softball and baseball started off their season on the road last Monday against Katahdin.
    Despite the final inning effort of Tiger softball, FFHS couldn’t comeback to beat Katahdin with a 13-11 loss.
    Maryl Shaw led the offensive effort with three singles, and Kelsie York and Shannon Towle both had two singles.
    FFHS baseball fell to the Cougars 11-1 in their opener. Ian Towle and Corey Everett both singled for the Tigers.
