Little Leaguers busy

    On Friday, Mooers Realty defeated Elks, 17-14.  
    Mooers was led by Ben Boutilier with three hits, including an inside-the-park home run, while Hunter McLaughlin and Ben Tuttle each had two hits.  
    Elks was led by Nick Cowperthwaite with three hits, while Ryan Dee cranked two hits, including an inside-the-park home run and Jimmy Buzzell tripled.
    Last Saturday, Aroostook Auto Glass topped F.A. Peabody, 12-5.
    For F.A. Peabody, Victoria Holmes and Madelene Anderson each collected a hit. Jaimee Theriault picked up the win off the mound. Anderson, Theriault and MacKenzie Hunt each scored twice for the winners.
    For Aroostook Auto Glass, Nicole Gougan and Kailtlyn Wiggins shared the duties on the mound to hold F.A. Peabody to five runs. Wiggins led the hitting with two singles, while Elizabeth Ward hit a sharp single to right.
    Coach James Hunt said that only a handful of players on each team have ever played organized ball before, and the action is just getting better and better with each game.  
    “The bats are coming alive and the pitching improves with every inning these two teams play,” he said.
    Also on Saturday, the Island Falls girls hosted Patten in a doubleheader, with Island Falls taking the sweep, 14-1 and 27-9.
    In the opener, Lauren Rockwell pitched her team to the win, while she was supported offensively by Katie Prescott and Mataya Hartin, who were both perfect from the plate.
    In the second game, Sable Altvater was the winning pitcher and helped her own cause with a grand slam, while Hartin hit her first home run. Cheyenne McNally had her first hit and drove in a run.
    Also on Saturday, three inter-league doubleheaders were played.
    In the first pair, Machias Savings Bank defeated Oakfield, 7-5.
     Daniel Howe led the hitting with three singles, while scoring twice for Machias Savings Bank. Teammates Gage Hunt and Hunter Hanning each singled twice, while Alex York, David Jewell and Alex Casillas each had a hit. Hanning picked up the win from the mound and Lucas Grant came in during the fourth to stop a late run by Oakfield.
    For Oakfield, Will McGary had a couple of hits, while Kaleb Burpee and Austin White each singled. Cody Lassonde had seven strikeouts, while only walking three.
    In the second game, Oakfield rebounded for a 5-4 win over Machias Savings Bank.
    For Oakfield, Lassonde led the way with two hits and scoring three runs. Oakfield’s pitchers Burpee and White combined for eight strikeouts and held a heavy hitting Machias team at bay.
    For Machias Savings Bank, Hunt singled and homered to close the scoring gap to within a run. Also hitting for Houlton was Blake Bagwell, Alex Carr and Alex Casillas.
    In other doubleheader action, Houlton Farms Dairy swept Island Falls, 20-9 and 15-5, and Savings Bank of Maine overpowered Patten, 22-0 and 19-0.
    The only game played last Wednesday was in the Katahdin Valley Little League, as the Oakfield Falcons got back on the winning track, defeating Patten, 9-1.
    Winning pitcher Gaige LaFay turned in a strong performance on the mound for the Falcons, while first  base man Will McGary led the offense with a home run and a triple. Kaleb Burpee also had a home run and collected a double. Trent Cullinan and Garrett Sommers each singled and drove in two runs for the winners.
    Patten was led my Mason Caron, who doubled and Wyatt Morse chipped in with a pair of singles.
    On Tuesday, Island Falls ended Oakfield’s undefeated season by a score of 8-3. Winning pitcher for Island Falls was Lauren Rockwell, who struck out 12. Shanna Porter had a homerun while Sable Altavater knocked in two runs; Mataya Hartin drove in a run and Katie Stevens got her first hit of the season.
    For Oakfield, Jessica Nye and Dakota Dickinson each had two hits.
     Last Monday, the Savings Bank of Maine picked up a 10-4 win over Linneus in the 11-12-year old Little League bracket.
    Kole Buzzeo and Nick Guiod combined for 11 strikeouts for Savings Bank of Maine, while offensively, Cameron Clark went 3-for-4 from the plate, with three runs scored, and Jacob Condon blasted a solo shot in the second inning over the lights. Condon and Kyle Bouchard each had a pair of hits.
    Tristan Larson did a nice job in relief on the mound for Linneus, pitching for the first time.
    In a game played at the Houlton Airport field, the Machias Savings Bank defeated Houlton Farms Dairy, 18-11.
    Daniel Howe pitched well through the first three innings before Houlton Farms Dairy scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead.
    Jon Tuttle and Isaiah Straubel hit home runs to lead the Houlton Farms Dairy offense.
    Hunter Hanning hit a long home run for the Machias Savings Bank and Gage Hunt came on in relief and closed the door in the final inning to preserve the win.
    In the Katahdin Valley Little League, Sherman and Patten split a doubleheader, with Sherman taking the opening win, 8-6.
    Sherman’s Sal Cloukey struck out eight to pick up the win, while Patten’s Andrew Olsen fanned six in the losing effort.
    Leading Sherman offensively were Logan Guiggey, with two singles, while Aaron Blakely tripled and Dalton Hartt picked up his first Little League hit.
    For Patten, Nick Randall singled.
    In the second game, Patten was victorious, 19-18.
     Caron popped an inside-the-park home run, tripled and doubled twice for the winners, while Randall and Olsen each tripled.
    For Sherman, Caine Patterson doubled and singled, while Guiggey banged an inside-the-park homer. Tim Stubbs also rapped an inside-the-park home run and singled, while Blakely doubled and tripled and Jayce Wise tripled.
    The Island Falls Bulldogs ended Oakfield’s perfect season in an exciting 9-8 win in extra innings.
    Parker Walker and Robbie Rockwell combined for 17 strikeouts for the Bulldogs. Rockwell knocked in three runs, while Walker chipped in with a pair of hits. Dylan Porter added a triple and drove in two runs, while Josh Perrin scored two key runs for Island Falls.
    For Oakfield, Cody Lassonde and Cullinan combined for eight strikeouts. Lassonde led the hitting with a pair of doubles, while McGary added three hits and Austin While chipped in with a pair.
    In the 9-10-year-old Houlton Little League division, Wal-Mart broke a 1-all tie in the fourth to defeat Mooers Realty, 10-2.
    For Mooers, Ben Tuttle pitched three innings, allowing only one run, while striking out eight. The only two hits for Mooers Realty came off the bats of Caleb Tribou, who hit a home run in the fifth inning and Andrew Theriault, who singled.
    For Wal- Mart, Connor Grant and Nick Botting each singled twice. Walker Webb singled, scored a run and knocked in a run, while Dallas Moore doubled to bring in three runs.
