PRESQUE ISLE – Heather Beaulieu of Presque Isle and Theresa Spooner of Ashland will be holding a fund-raiser Sunday to raise money for the Breast Cancer 3-Day.
Beaulieu and Spooner are joining thousands of other dedicated women and men for the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-Day, a three-day, 60-mile walk benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust.
In order to participate, each walker must train for the event and commit to raising a minimum of $2,200.
“Many walkers raise more than the minimum,” said Beaulieu. “In fact, event organizers report the average amount raised is $2,900.”
Family, friends and local supporters have worked together to donate homemade baked goods that will be sold from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, July 27 behind Daigle Oil on North Main Street in Presque Isle with all proceeds sponsoring the Breast Cancer 3-Day.
As part of the fund-raiser, volunteers have also agreed to help wash and wax vehicles.
“With this bake sale and car wash, I hope to exceed my fund-raising goal,” Beaulieu said. “I know with Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust as beneficiaries, I’m helping to ensure funding is available for important research and community outreach programs.”
Spooner said the cause is near and dear to her.
“I’m participating in the Breast Cancer 3-Day because my mother lost her life last year to breast cancer and I wanted to do something bold to help fight the disease, and what better way than to set a goal to accomplish something challenging and rewarding,” she said.
“I look forward to marching through the streets of Philadelphia with thousands of others as we raise awareness and funds for the breast cancer movement,” Spooner said.
In addition to attending Beaulieu’s and Spooner’s car wash and bake sale, community members can also help them reach their goal by making a donation directly to the online donation page or by joining their team at http://08.the3day.org/goto/CountyGirlsforaCure.
Taking place in 14 cities nationwide, the Breast Cancer 3-Day is a three-day, 60-mile walk that provides an opportunity to educate tens of thousands of people about breast health, including the importance of early detection.
Breast Cancer 3-Day participants commit to raising a minimum of $2,200 and walking an average of 20 miles a day during each three-day event.
Proceeds from the Breast Cancer 3-Day are used for breast cancer research, education, and community outreach programs.
As the primary beneficiary of the Breast Cancer 3-Day, Susan G. Komen for the Cure receives 85 percent of net proceeds and the remaining 15 percent goes to the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Please visit www.The3Day.org, or call 800.996.3DAY for more information.
