    Bangor – Mary Stewart Dartnell, 88, wife of the late Rev. E. Charles Dartnell, died July 27, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 14, 1920, in Bangor, the daughter of James P. and Carolan E. (Goode) Stewart.
    Mary attended Bangor schools graduating from Bangor High School in 1938. She then went on to graduate from House in the Pines College in Norton, Mass. where she and a classmate were awarded the Spirit Cup, the highest award given to a student. She also was president of the Christian Association and a permanent member of the student council. Mary was employed at Rutgers University in the office of Dr. William Spier, Director of Student Life in the rehabilitation of young men returning to Rutgers from WWII. Other employment included the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass. and as a teacher at the Children’s Opportunity Center for the mentally challenged in Brewer. After her marriage to the Rev. Dartnell, she became actively involved with him in his busy and active ministry. They were named honorary members of the Blue Hill Congregational Church. Mary enjoyed the outdoors and was fond of the coast, the mountains and all of nature. She loved flowers, animals and all living creatures. She was a kind and gentle natured person known for her thoughtfulness, generosity and love and concern for all. Throughout her life she helped, supported and encouraged many people and organizations.
    Surviving are her step-daughter, Sylvia Hadge and her husband, Mitchell and family of Connecticut; cousins, Donald Stewart and his wife, Carol and family of Houlton, Marjorie Weyburn and family of Danforth, Florence Lindsay and her husband, Fletcher and family of Portland. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and infant brother, Donald.
    Funeral services were held for Mary on July 30, 2008, in Bangor. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
