McCluskey’s offers extra space

PRESQUE ISLE – Whether looking for a little extra space, a mobile winter home or an upgrade from the tent at a campground, McCluskey’s RV Center can meet their customers’ needs.     McCluskey’s RV Center, at 29 Houlton Road one mile south or Presque Isle on Route 1, has been looking after their customers’ demands for 62 years, and solely dealt in RVs for 45 years.
Gary McCluskey, the second generation salesman, and his wife Carla McCluskey have kept the business going while other RV lots have come and gone. “It’s a family business,” explained Gary McCluskey. “RVs are the only thing that we do. This is our livelihood.”
According to Gary McCluskey, what makes McCluskey’s exceptional is their service after the sale. “We have full service from two factory-trained and propane licensed mechanics. There are a lot of new dealers that provide only sales, but aren’t there to back up the product after the sale … What makes you an RV dealer is taking care of the customer after the sale. Taking care of a new camper is like taking care of a new home with furniture, appliances and other features; we service those.”
McCluskey’s RV Center has approximately 75 RVs on the lot at any one time including travel trailers, fifth-wheels and motor homes. “The whole concept of the RV lifestyle is so easy to get into; they can walk in here and a couple days later drive out with an RV,” said Gary McCluskey. “It’s as easy as buying a car but far more affordable.”
Despite high fuel prices, McCluskey’s is thriving as RV usage evolves. “Even with high fuel prices, business is alive and well because people use them for other purposes than travel,” said Gary McCluskey. “Today’s camper is different whether used in place of a camp at the lake or as an extra bedroom. It’s living space, and it has many, many uses.”
McCluskey’s recent sales have included customer’s using an RV as a winter home in Florida and a man looking for sleeping space for summer guests. Many people also take their RVs to local campgrounds inline with Maine’s ‘staycation’ initiative.
