Little League All-Stars win Acadian tournament

    BAR HARBOR – The Caribou 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars won the 2008 Acadian League Tournament held in Bar Harbor by going undefeated in their first two games of the rain-shortened event.

    In the first game, Caribou was down 5-0 in the top of the first inning against Acadia, but came roaring back in the bottom half with four runs. Jordyn Doucette and Sean Madore each slammed a home run for two runs.
    Dayne Savage scored in the second inning on a single by Mike Selander to tie the game at 5-5. Selander, Matt Curry and Matt Frost each scored in the fourth inning to give Caribou the 8-5 lead.
    The All-Stars went on to score five times in the fifth inning highlighted by a three-run home run by Frost.

    Caribou’s lead was increased to 13-5 when Doucette, Curry, Frost, Breen Blackstone and Dylan Berkoski all scored. Acadia cut the lead to 13-6 in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to make up lost ground.
    The pitching of Matt Milliard and Cody Herbert proved to be too much for Acadia. Caribou hitters tallied up 19 hits in the victory.
    In game two, Caribou took a commanding five-point lead over Machias in the first inning. Milliard, Selander, Curry, Frost and Madore all scored for the early scoring streak. Machias answered with two runs in the second.
    In the third inning, Blackstone bunted for a single followed by Berkoski’s two-run homer for a 7-2 lead. Selander, Curry, Frost and Herbert  all scored in the top half of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 11-2.
    Machias scored three runs of their own in the fourth inning, but Caribou put the game away in the fifth as Milliard, Doucette, Curry, Frost and Savage all scored for the final score of 16-5. Herbert and Curry combined pitching efforts to secure the win.
    When rain caused the final day of the tournament to be cancelled, Caribou was the only undefeated team and thus brought home the championship.
