Washburn royalty
A fun-filled evening resulted in the crowning of Washburn’s latest addition to the “royal family,” Evan Sperrey, whose stage name was Ivana Goodwin; and apparently Evan got his wish. He was joined by runner-up Alex McIntosh, who was known as Mia Hottie.
Other “titles” won during the event included Nick McIntosh winning the Best Hair award, and Jeremiah Sjoberg capturing Ms. Congeniality. Donny White came out with the double trophies for Most Talented and People’s Choice.
Their opening number was a dance to the song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and all six contestants modeled their sports apparel and showed off their many “talents.”
Extra entertainment was provided by the escorts, Noah Lot (Amber Reed), Brock Lee (Julie Stephenson), Harry Pitts (Morgan Berube), Dan Druff (Rachel Palmer) and Cris P. Bacon (Jordan Chandler).
The “girls” truly shined brightly in the evening gown competition, likely making their parents more than proud. Cheryl Sperry made it know that she was “proud of my daughter,” but Rod wasn’t commenting at presstime.
The group and audience members enjoyed a refreshment break while the votes were being tallied and then, back on stage, the thank-you presentations were made prior to the announcement of the winners.
Emcees for the evening included Monique Peabody, Marsha Mellow, Craig Sjoberg and Tom Berube. Judges having to make the hard decisions as to whom the victors were included: Randy Norsworthy, Louise Cole, Beth Hartford, Alyson Saucier and Mike Hartford. Kelly Hemphill was the auditor.
This event was assisted by lots of backstage help including; Lizzy Gagnon, Jon Hester, Rhonda Sperrey, Laurie Blackstone, Crystal Hobbs, Zach Davis, Amber Reed, Jordan Chandler, Justin Howe, Jake Theriault, as well as all the parents who provided refreshments and helped with the bake sale.

Fall Court of Honor
Washburn’s Boy Scout Troop 177 held their Fall Court of Honor on Sunday, Nov. , at the Lidstone Methodist Church. Families brought entrées for a delicious potluck supper, followed by an impressive award ceremony denoting the many rank advancements and merit badges earned by the Scouts, who all worked hard to attain their status and ranks.
Prior to the meal, Adam Wilcox led the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the Scout Law, while Andy White Jr. opened with a prayer.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Scout of the Year for 2008. Scoutmaster Larry Harrison noted that this year it was a hard choice due to the troop having so many dedicated Scouts. One in particular stood out as the most improved in spirit and dedication, and this year’s award was presented to Daniel Roy.
A review of next year’s troop leaders was given by incoming Senior Patrol Leader Keagan Page and the new troop leaders will be conducting Junior Leader Training the weekend of Nov. 28 – 30 at the Wilcox camp at Mud Lake.
Those attending the Court of Honor included: Ronald Rand, Chris Hartman, Keagan Page, Andy White Jr., Taylor Skinner, Greg Page, Jared Reed, Larry Harrison, Jacob Reed, Daniel Roy, Adam Wilcox and Don Wilcox.
International wedding
Jennifer Dawn Jacobs and Cristiano Gatti were united in marriage on South Beach near Miami, Fla. The wedding took place at a beautiful beach just at sunset on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, and the ceremony was performed while friends and relatives formed a circle surrounding the couple. The theme of the wedding was “To follow your dream.”
The bride was given in marriage by her father, Dorian Jacobs, of North Berwick and Ocala, Fla., along with her mother, Sandra Jacobs, of Key West, Fla.
The bride wore a wedding gown designed by Giorgio Armani and an heirloom veil from Milan, Italy, which was given to her by the groom’s family. The bridal bouquet consisted of white roses tied together with a white, sheer streamer. Maid of Honor Kathy Walsh, from Austin, Texas, wore a dress of black and white with a red sash and carried a small bouquet of white roses, and the best man, Luca Bittoni, a friend of the groom, wore a black suit.
The groom’s mother passed out white-covered almonds from Italy as a token of good luck. The wedding party proceeded to an Italian restaurant, the Café Prima Pasta, for dinner hosted by the bride’s father and stepmother, Dorian and Wendy Jacobs. The wedding cake, from Epicure, decorated with white frosted roses, was served after the meal, and the remainder of the evening was spent at the Shore Club, South Beach, for drinks and dancing.
Jennifer and Cris met in 2005 on a plane to Miami while Cris was completing a training program in the United States. The bride has a master’s degree in communications from the University of Maine at Orono and is employed by GroupM. The groom is an engineer for General Electric of Milan, Italy.
The groom’s parents are Savina Cazzaniga and Anacleto Gatti, of Cambiago, Italy, and the bride is the granddaughter of Ellsworth and Dolores Woodman, of Washburn.
The couple will be traveling throughout Europe for the next few months, while Cristiano is on assignment for G.E..
