Yang expands service

Dr. Byoung-Woo Yang announced the expansion of his practice to include the subspecialty of wound care for patients throughout Aroostook County. Yang is board certified in both internal medicine and hyperbaric medicine, which includes comprehensive wound management. He received subspecialty training in hyperbaric medicine while on a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.

Yang is also a scientist. He has researched stem cell mobilization in diabetes patients and presented his work at an international scientific conference in Hawaii in 2007, where he received the President Award (second place).
He has expertise in treating complicated wounds such as venous insufficiency, arterial insufficiency, diabetic foot, delayed healing surgical wounds, complications from radiation treatment and decubitus ulcers (bed sores).
His training is rare. In fact, the only approved institutions currently offering this subspecialty are the University of Pennsylvania, Duke and University of California San Diego.
Yang completed his residency at a large wound care center in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., under the direction of the late, renowned wound treatment physician, Dr. Jorge Beale.
Yang observed that “the current trend in wound care is to focus on how best to mobilize stem cells to facilitate healing.”
He further notes that “since a wound is a manifestation of a systemic illness, the physician must treat the patient as a whole rather than just the wound.”
His clinic is located at the Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Yang, kindly contact his office at 834-6170.
