Adult Education would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2009. We kicked off the New Year with the beginning of our spring semester on Jan. 12, 2009. Our flyers and booklet are available at the adult education office or you can view it online at www.caribouschools.org/AdultEd/AdultEd.html. We have several new classes, as well as the staples to adult education. Caribou Adult Education will continue to enroll adults throughout the first few weeks of classes so if you have not already enrolled, you still have time to do so.     Five new classes will be offered this semester including Human Relations, Psychology, Sociology, Welding for Beginners, and Rock and Roll Guitar. Human Relations is an introductory course in interpersonal skills stressing the importance of utilizing the skills personally and professionally. It includes the study of individual behavior as it relates to leadership traits, individual behavior in organizations, and related subjects of motivation and leadership. Other areas of interest include perceptions, attitudes, and values effect on management decisions and actions.
In the introductory course of psychology, human behaviors will be studies through lectures and discussion on the areas of learning, human growth and development, motivation, sensation/perception, personality, emotions, behavior disorders, and self and society. Sociology on the other hand will focus on the study of human relationships in society. The course will examine culture, social structures, social institutions, and social inequality. The changing social world and its implications will be presented and analyzed.
Welding for Beginners will focus on the basic skills of welding including using oxyacetylene and shielded metal arc welding, MIG welding, brazing, and cutting with a torch. Students will receive hands on experience in a shop setting and will meet standards set by the American Welding Society. Rock and Roll Guitar is a class for beginner to intermediate students who will develop their skills in lead and rhythm guitar by learning rock and blues songs popular over the last 40 years. Each student must have his or her own six-string guitar.
