FAMILY TIME — Martin Wheeler of Linneus is trying his hand at ice fishing at Nickerson Lake. Wheeler’s sons, Jeffrey, pictured and a younger son Ted, a bit camera shy, take turns staying warm in the ice shack furnished with a kerosene heater.

Brown encourages everyone to join in, either as a spectator or a participant.
If you like to ice fish, you can pre-register at the Lake Road Market or Cameron’s Market in New Limerick, Mac’s Trading Post in Houlton or T & S Market in Hodgdon by 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6. Saturday and Sunday registrations will only be accepted at the Lake Road Market, 706 Lake Road in New Limerick.
This will  be the 5th Annual Ice Fishing Derby and will include Drews, Nickerson, Bradbury, Cochrane and Mill Pond. Registration fees are $8 per day or $12 for the weekend. The derby begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday. There will be no fish registered after 6 p.m. either day. More than $400 in cash prizes will be awarded for a variety of fish caught and raffle prizes include a Red Deer hunt and an ice auger.
