The Houlton High School cheerleaders didn’t perform as well as they would have liked at the Eastern Maine Cheerleading Competition held last Saturday in Bangor, but they are among the top six teams that will advance to the state meet this Saturday in a return trip to the Auditorium floor. “It was not our day,” said Houlton cheerleading coach Mary Jane Cleary. “But, we qualified for states and we will learn from our mistakes and go into the state competition with energy and enthusiasm.”
The Houlton cheerleaders finished in fifth place with 112.5 points behind champion Dexter with 120.9 points and runner-up Calais who was 2.2 points behind the Tigers. In third was Sumner (115.9); fourth, Orono (113) and sixth, Narraguagus (100.9).
“We will be working hard to make our stunts steady without wobbles,” said Cleary.
