Schedule of Events for some winter fun

Friday, February 6

Fifth annual Moosestompers Ice Fishing Derby
   Base Camp and Weigh-In located at Lake Road Market & Deli, 706 Drews Lake Road, New Limerick.

    Pre-registration deadline is 6 p.m. Friday Derby will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 8.
    All fish must be caught in Drews, Nickerson, Cochrane, Bradbury Lakes, or Mill Pond. All weigh-ins are due by 6 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday at Lake Road Market & Deli.
    Raffle prizes are for a Jiffy Ice Auger and a Red Deer Hunt with bonus drawings for door prizes.         Registration forms are also available at Mac’s Trading Post in Houlton, T & S Market in Hodgdon, or Cameron’s Market in New Limerick. Please call 532-3946 or 538-7374 for further details.
7-9 p.m.  Millar Civic Center Public Skating.

7 p.m. Moosestompin’ Snowmobiles on Parade
    Decorate your sled, round up your buddies and meet everybody at Community Park at 7 p.m. for a ride through town and back to Community Park for the huge bonfire! This year’s parade will hopefully include many of the old antique beauties we enjoy seeing. Participants receive an extra card towards the Poker Run on Saturday. The route this year starts at Community Park, Randall Street, down Pleasant Street, cut across by Gentle Memorial Building, down Main Street, down Broadway Street, up Military Street, toward the park  via Willard Street and end at Community Park.

8 p.m. Outside Skating — Houlton Community Park
    Mother Nature permitting — Hot Chocolate provided by the Houlton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

8 p.m. Bonfire — Houlton Community Park
    Join everyone after the parade for a huge bonfire provided by Houlton Fire Department and hot chocolate by the ladies auxiliary.

Saturday,Feb. 7

6 a.m. – Noon registration for the fifth annual MoosestompersIce Fishing Derby
    Saturday and Sunday registrations will only be accepted at Lake Road Market & Deli.
 
6-10 a.m. Meduxnekeag Ramblers special breakfast
    With all of the activity and calories you are going to burn being outside snow sledding, cross-country skiing and playing in the Moosestompers games; you are going to need a good foundation of food in your belly. Wander on up to Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowsled Club on the Wiley Road in Littleton by sled, car, or even hitchhike if you have to. $6 for adults and $2 for children under 12. The cooks are the best and friendliest. Buy a ticket to enter the 50/50 drawing. Proceeds will go to the Battered Women’s Project. Menu includes baked ham, baked beans, homemade donuts and muffins, special pastries, bacon, eggs and all the fixings.
 
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Moosestompers Poker Run by the Meduxnekeag Ramblers
    Poker run registration is from 6-10 a.m. during the breakfast at the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Clubhouse. Maps will be available. Poker Run course will be announced at the breakfast where you pick up your first card. Don’t miss out on an excellent ride weather permitting. The trails are groomed perfectly and the atmosphere is filled with fun. $7 per hand or two hands for $10. Riding in the Moosestompers Parade
Friday night gets you an extra card. Poker Run is open to anyone on a sled or vehicle. Ample parking for vehicles and trailers. Please follow the signs and be safe. Proceeds will be used to help maintain trails. No worries, if you don’t have a sled you can pick up your full hand at the breakfast.

9 a.m. The “Giant Hill” opens for sliding
    Throughout the weekend, enjoy Derby Hill sliding. Bring your flying saucer, toboggan, or a cardboard box and have fun with your friends and neighbors sliding.

10:45 a.m. Walk, 11 a.m. Run  Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run
    First, race in the Aroostook Mustards County Challenge Series. Registration from 9:30-10:35 a.m. in the Millar Civic Center’s large function room (upstairs overlooking skating rink). Fee is $9 ($11 Canadian) with a T-shirt to the first 50 registered participants. The walk begins at 10:45 a.m. and the run at 11 a.m. The course starts and finishes at the Millar Civic Center’s front entrance. An adult guardian must accompany children under 10 years of age. Changing rooms available adjacent to skating rink. Categories; 5K Run: 14 and under, 5-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over. All proceeds benefit Aroostook Mustards Scholarship Fund. Refreshments will be available after the walk/run. The awards ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m., which will include the first five finishers in the walking category, and 1-2 in each age category (male and female) in running. Special awards: First place, 3 member male and female teams; “Mean Runner”: and “Guts” Award. 11 a.m. Sawdust Prize Search — Community Park
    The North Country Cruisers are sponsoring a sawdust prize search. Everyone is a winner.

11 a.m. — 2 p.m. Food Concessions Open Community Park
    The Houlton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be providing a food concession at the log cabin at the park for a warm up and a snack or two. Food is also available inside the Millar Civic Center. Concessions are open with your favorite vittles.

11 a.m. — 2 p.m.free Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides — Community Park
    Come for a sleigh ride through Community Park.

12- 4 p.m. Outdoor Skating – Community Park
    Mother Nature permitting.

12-6:30p.m. Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum — Littleton
    Come see the best of their Farmer’s Museum.

12 p.m. Half Dollar Scramble for Kids — Houlton Community Park
    Age groups 6 and under, 7 to 9, 10 to 13.Here is where the kids make all the money. There will be three piles of snow mixed with a generous helping of over $400 worth of half dollars. The kids will go into a feeding frenzy digging, searching and trying to find the cash. Everybody goes away with a fistful of half dollars. Special thanks to, Bangor Savings, TD BankNorth, Machias Savings Bank, Houlton Savings Bank of Maine, and Key Bank.
    Awards will be given to all winners following each park event. Congratulations to all.

12:30 p.m. Free admission to the Temple Theatre.
    Enjoy the free admission to see a children’s movie. Keep your eyes on the Temple Theater marquee for featured movie, compliments of Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce.

1-2 p.m. First Time Sliding Race — The Giant Hill
    Bring your sleds to Derby Hill for the first time Sliding Race. Age groups, 6 and under, 7-9, and 10-13. Prizes and trophies will be awarded.

1-7 p.m. Free Public Skating — Millar Civic Center
    Ice resurfacing every two hours.

1-4 p.m. The Maine Winter Sports Center Cross Country Ski Clinic — Houlton Community Park
    M.W.S.C. will be coming with their Healthy Hometown Ski Trailer, which has over 100 pairs of skis/boots/poles, as well as a Healthy Hometown Ski Coach who will be available for basic skiing instruction. This is a great opportunity to try cross-country skiing and receive professional instruction for free.

2 p.m. Bonfire— Houlton Community Park
    If you missed the first bonfire, here’s another chance to be warmed up with some hot chocolate and food provided by the Houlton Fire Department Ladies Aux.

2:30- 3 p.m. Human Curling — Houlton Community Park
    No need for brooms.

4:30-6 p.m. Baked Bean Supper with music by the Music Men at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum
    Come to Littleton, tour the museum, have supper and enjoy musical entertainment. The menu includes: baked beans, hot dogs, ham, salads, all the fixings and your favorite dessert, $8 per person. Don’t forget to pick up a 50/50 ticket. There will be a Dessert Auction during and after the supper. All proceeds from the auction will be used for the museum projects.

8 p.m. Moosestompers Ball — The Lounge Downunder, Houlton
    Enjoy shaking off all of those calories from all of the eating you have done today and loosen-up those cold muscles twisting, shouting, moving, and grooving. Doors open at 8 p.m. No one under 21 will be admitted. There will be a 50/50 drawing.

Sunday, Feb. 8

11 a.m. Bantams hockey game – Millar Civic Center

11 a.m. Sliding Hill reopens
    Round up the family; spread the word with your friends and neighbors. See you at the Hill.

Noon Sled Rides
    Free sled rides to anyone who wants to go for a spin.

12:30 p.m. Free admission to the Temple Theatre
    Enjoy the free admission to see a children’s movie. Keep your eyes on the Temple Theater marquee for featured movie. Compliments of the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce.
 
1- 3 p.m. Free Public Skating – Millar Civic Center
    More family fun. Free indoor ice-skating if you are not worn out yet or maybe you missed the fun yesterday. Stop by for family skating.

1- 5 p.m. “G-Force” Laser Tag – Houlton High School Gymnasium
    Sponsored by Nelson Construction to benefit Houlton Volunteer Fire Department & Just For Kids Playground. Laser Tag is best described as “like getting inside a video game”. This is not a sit down, couch potato game; you are playing against real people, indoors, in a team environment, while building self-confidence through interactive play.  For ages 5 (accompanied with an adult) to 75.
    Cost is $5 for one hour; $10 for two hours or $15 for the day.

ImageIN CONCERT AT HHS — Rick Charette will be in concert from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Come join in with Charette and sing his popular tunes, “Alligator in the Elevator and Mud, Mud, I Love Mud.”
3 – 4 p.m. Rick Charette – Houlton High School Auditorium
    Sponsored by Madigan Health Care Services to benefit Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Just For Kids Playground.
    Come sing and laugh away those cabin fever blues. Join Rick Charette for songs that delight the entire family.
    Tickets will be sold at the door. Cost is $6 for children 15 and under and $10 for adults.

3:15 – 5:15 p.m. Hogan Tire Shootout
    You don’t need to be a member of SAMHA to show off your skills. Everyone from age groups 5 to18 are welcome to compete. There will be a competition in spring skating, puck performance and radar slap shot categories. Thanks goes to Bill Higgins and Hogan Tire for your years of hockey support. Door prizes will be available. This just may be the best shootout ever.

5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Free Public Skating – Millar Civic Center
 

6 p.m.  Weigh-in for Ice Fishing Derby

    All fish must be weighed in at Lake Road Market & Deli for the 5th Annual Moosestompers Ice Fishing Derby. Call Dick Stewart at 532-3946 or 538-7374 for more information.

    All activities take place at Community Park in Houlton unless otherwise indicated. (ie: snowmobile club activities). Most events are located between Millar Civic Center, the sliding hill and the baseball fields.
