Knowles, Barbara D., 79, February 22, 2009.  Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.  Interment to be held in the spring in the Hodgdon Cemetery.
    HODGDON – Barbara  D.  Knowles, 79, died February 22, 2009, in Bangor. She was born October 6, 1929, in  Camden the daughter of Philip and  Marietta (Simpson) Bickford.
    She graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital as an RN, volunteered for Aroostook Area on Aging, Meals on Wheels and was a member Hodgdon Methodist Church.
    She is survived by three children: Michael and his wife, Cathy, of Saco, Kathy Blanchette and her husband, Tim, of Houlton, Philip and his wife, Susan, of Sherman; eight grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Benn of Hodgdon; a sister, Donalene Blackie and her husband James of Hodgdon; and a close friend, Norma Folsom whom she worked with in nursing home licensing and certification where she was admired for her professionalism as well as her for her compassion. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth and a son, David.
    Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sat. at the Hodgdon Methodist Church with the Rev. Marilyn Rhodin Officiating. Spring interment will be in the Hodgdon Cemetery In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hodgdon Methodist Church, c/o Bowers Funeral Home, PO Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730.
