Diocese of Portland welcomes new director

THE DIOCESE OF PORTLAND is excited to welcome a new director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry. Upon the retirement of its recent director, Jeanne Bigelow, the Diocese of Portland opened the search for a new director. After reviewing the many applicants and interviewing some, Michael Lavigne from Providence, R.I. was hired.

Within the first month of his new employment, Lavigne braved the northbound roads and traveled to attend the Aroostook County Youth Ministry Association meeting so he could meet those working in parish and cluster Youth Ministry. His address began with thanking the adults who have been so diligent in advocating for teenagers and ended with his heartfelt thanks for their hard work and his warm welcome. Welcoming Lavigne to Aroostook County are, front row, from left: Sandy Martin (Notre Dame Parish, Madawaska), Lavigne, and Karen Ouellette, Aroostook County Youth Ministry coordinator. Middle row: Donna Deschaine (Notre Dame, Madawaska), Rachel Lajoie (St. Peter Chanel, Van Buren), Deacon Al Burleigh (St. Mary, Houlton), Jeanine Morneault (Holy Rosary, Caribou) and Corey Morin (Notre Dame, Madawaska). Back row: Michael Sirois (Our Lady of the Valley, St. Agatha) and Maggie Smith (St. Mary, Presque Isle).
