Patten Winter Carnival winners

    About 150 people turned out for Patten Playground’s Winter Carnival, which had to be rescheduled due to bad weather. Families enjoyed taste testing and voting for their favorite chili, along with hot dogs, potatoes baked over an open fire and s’mores cooked to perfection over a bonfire.  They also ice skated, rode in a homemade dogsled behind a snowmobile, slid down “Little Katahdin” hill on anything that would go, participated in snowshoe races and enjoyed visiting family and friends under the lights.     Organizers agreed, it was worth every minute of time and effort to bring the community together to enjoy good, clean fun. 
    Patten Playground’s Winter Carnival results are as follows: Best overall chili: first, Valerie Nason ($30 gas card); second, Pat Moriarty and third, Lana Tucker. Most original chili: first, Carol Cole ($30 gas card); second, Beverly Yates and third, Jennifer Olsen.
    Snowsled judging: Antique sled 10 years and older, first, Travis Yates ($30 gas card) and second, Keith Brackett; Snowsled judging: Modern sled under 10 years, first, Dicky Brackett ($30 gas card); second,  Steve Yates and third, Dennis Brackett.
     Snowshoe races (ribbons awarded) in ages 4-8, first, Jordyn Ritchie and second, Grady Ritchie; ages 9-12, first, Dakota McNally; second, Cooper Drew and third, Mercedes Strang.
