2009 Maine NHS President
Easton Junior/Senior High School
I believe that this year’s NHS convention was a success. We had around 450 people at the banquet at Jeff’s Catering and about the same number at the convention at Orono. This year’s theme was “Giving Hope.”
Our speakers had powerful messages referring to giving hope and I hope that all the students received them. I personally enjoyed the former Attorney General’s speech on domestic violence and abuse. It is really amazing what one nice and genuine act of kindness can influence a child’s life.
The one thing about the convention that changed the most was the seating arrangements for the students. We set it up so that students from each school would be seated with students from different schools in order to mingle a little better than previous years. It took a lot of work to plan and do but it was done successfully and had a positive impact on the students.
All of the officers for the Maine NHS worked tirelessly to try and give the students the best convention possible and I believe we succeeded.
